The families of teens unaccounted for after a devastating inferno at a bar in a Switzerland's winter destination are enduring an painful period of uncertainty for official news and pleading for any details about their children online.

The fire ripped through the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of the Valais region, in the small hours of New Year's Day. Confirmed video show the ceiling being engulfed in flames as beverages with fireworks are raised in celebration.

Officials have warned that it could take considerable time to formally name the those who perished of the disaster, which resulted in the death of 40 people and injured another scores more.
