Toronto Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Matchup Versus the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros securing the World Series in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays reached their initial Fall Classic following 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the decisive game seven of the American League Championship Series.

Trailing 3-1, the star outfielder hit a three-run blast in the seventh inning, guiding the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 win in the series. They will now face the defending champions, who are the defending champions, in the anticipated championship.

"I'm thrilled for this squad, our city, Canada," said Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "What an amazing experience."

Springer has now slugged 23 October home runs, making him third on the list trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).

"I can't think of anyone else anywhere that I want up in that situation except for him with his playoff prowess," remarked Schneider.

Seattle's team, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the sole team that has never reached in a Fall Classic.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it's going to sting" after his team's loss at their home ballpark, but applauded their work this season.

"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we finished on the losing end of this one," he added.

The Blue Jays claimed the championship on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will welcome the Dodgers in game one on this Friday.
