Thomas Tuchel Expresses Disappointment Over Home Crowd Support Following Comfortable Wales Victory.
The England head coach expressed his disappointment that the Three Lions team did not enjoy stronger encouragement from the home crowd during their decisive triumph over Wales on Thursday night.
Tuchel was satisfied to see his squad continue their good form, with finishes from Rogers, Watkins, and Saka inside the opening quarter deciding the game. But, he was not content with the mood at the iconic venue.
“With one and a half sessions to prepare against a organized team and we performed excellently,” Tuchel remarked. “It could have been 5-0 up at half-time. We missed the additional ones. It was quiet. We didn’t get support from the crowd. Our team gave their all to win.”
“What more can you deliver in the first quarter? We prevented them get away. When you only hear just Wales fans for 30 minutes, it’s regrettable because the squad warranted greater backing today.”
“I support this statement. There’s nothing more than leading three goals up in a rivalry match. I hoped for a greater support in periods where it gets difficult.”
“After halftime, to cheer us on, there was excessive backing for the opposition. It might have aided us to refocus, but that’s football and that is it.”
Squad Decisions Justified by Display
Away from risking a fight with supporters, Tuchel also caused a stir by omitting Jude Bellingham and Foden from his squad. However the move was backed up by Rogers impressing again in the No 10 position and getting his first international goal.
“He is what he is,” Tuchel said. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is competing for his place.”
Bellamy Hopes for Lessons from Defeat
The Wales manager expressed hope that his team, who host Belgium in a crucial qualifying match on next week, take lessons from their disappointing first-half display.
“That’s the reason I wanted this game,” the manager said. “I wanted to assess where we are. Where do we want to go? Who do we want to be? This performance gives me inspiration.”
Fitness Worry for Striker
Ollie Watkins was substituted at half-time after colliding with a post and is a concern when the national team face Latvia in the Latvian capital in a qualifier on next week.
