The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Chose the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song

This latest animated series, the most recent animated adventure from Critical Role, revealed a new opening credits. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

Overall, the opening looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the music selection.

The intro uses "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar composition composed by artist Colm McGuinness. It's a track originating from the soundtrack album of that title, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental choice, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its presence.

But for me, The series' intro fails to capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", written by musician the artist, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but from what I know of the group, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, the creators has stated that the animated show will have some changes and variations from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its intro appears as among these.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from Nov. 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
