The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller Merging Silent Hill with Among Us Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several intriguing upcoming titles, but one especially has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive experience where a girl harboring several personalities inside her needs to flee from a maze of the mind," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of teenage years. Within her exist four separate personas, all possessing unique fears and motivations. These souls can take over spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Based on revealed gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a eerie hospital, though other scenes depict the protagonist exploring a abandoned chapel.

An Environment of Personal Horror

"What are you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that appear minor to other people can activate a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that idea — fears that are specific to every individual."

The core mechanic involves controlling whichever soul surfaces at a particular moment. However, these identities will change involuntarily as you play. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the protagonist one after another. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice

At first glance, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The setting is filled with orderlies who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the lobby have large blooms where their heads are. Flowers are an ever-present element, juxtaposing organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four entities haunting the heroine is the "real" one. "Each of the personas claims that the body belongs to them," explains a creator. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is real."

After a player have deduced a soul is an impostor, they are forced to destroy it. But, because each soul can lie or hide the reality, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the true [soul] by your own actions," the narration suggests. "The final entity remaining might be a fake. In any case, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
