19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging season, managing just one match at the big events and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in especial - led to him falling of the top ten and eventually separating with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt since March of 2023.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at 21 different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his past six championship matches, including in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's defensive approach and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted commentators to question if his skill to compete at the top level was finished.

But the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and perform assertively, supported by an better service.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first ATP Tour championship, took control to force a decider.

The opponent rescued four early-game opportunities in a tight final set before Medvedev broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, Medvedev secured the title with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to control a return after a lengthy match.
