Pakistan Match Postponed amidst Asia Cup Instability
The Pakistani crucial fixture against the United Arab Emirates was postponed by 60 minutes following ongoing dispute arising from Sunday's high-stakes match against India.
According to sources, India's players allegedly refused to shake hands after the contest, that was the first clash between the two countries after recent military conflict.
Furthermore, Pakistan claimed that official Andy Pycroft reportedly instructed captain Salman Agha not to exchange pleasantries with his Indian counterpart at the toss.
Subsequently, Pakistan demanded the removal of Pycroft from officiating duties for the upcoming game with the UAE.
Originally set to start at 15:30 BST, the critical fixture experienced a delay as players remained at their hotel during ongoing discussions.
Nonetheless, the squad eventually left for the venue approximately 30 minutes before the planned coin toss.
Prior to their exit, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi allegedly conducted discussions with ex chairmen Ramiz Raja and Najam Sethi.
Shortly after, tournament officials announced a new start time of 16:30 BST, with Pycroft likely to stay as match referee.
If Pakistan defeat the UAE, they will face India once more in Dubai on Sunday in the Super Four stage, potentially extending the ongoing dispute.
This represents the latest instance of strained relations between India and Pakistan affecting cricket fixtures.
Previously, the two nations only play each other during international events, and India's games in the Champions Trophy were moved to Dubai when they declined to travel Pakistan.
Likewise, Pakistan is not set to travel to India for the upcoming Women's World Cup, with their fixtures rather scheduled to be played in Sri Lanka.
India and Pakistan are set to meet once more in Colombo on Sunday, 5 October.
