On Friday, the Attorney General appointed Jay Clayton to head an inquiry into opponents of the President and their connections with Jeffrey Epstein. This decision came just after Trump ordered her to initiate the investigation.

In a statement, Bondi praised Clayton as “a highly skilled and reliable legal expert”. She stated, “The department will handle this matter promptly and thoroughly to provide clarity for citizens.”

This development contrasts with a July memo from federal authorities which stated that documents related to Epstein did not warrant further inquiries. As per the document, authorities “did not uncover evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties”

Trump Calls for Scrutiny of Democrats in Epstein Matter

This news comes as growing pressure from the president on lawmakers to resist the full release of Epstein-related documents before an upcoming House vote in the coming days. Many Republicans are expected to support the release.

Recently released emails from Jeffrey Epstein have highlighted Trump’s past involvement with the sex trafficker, including details that he knew more about Epstein’s conduct than he has previously let on.

That same day, Trump announced he would ask the Department of Justice to investigate Epstein’s ties with Democrats, specifically naming prominent individuals such as Clinton, Summers, and Hoffman. Interestingly, Trump also referred to the “Epstein situation” as a “deception”.
